On Sunday, November 17, 2019 at 9:30 a.m., at Battaglia Terme will be inaugurated, coinciding with the annual Meeting of the Boatmen, the monument dedicated to the medieval Battaglia Canal, the oldest navigable canal in Europe.

The Battaglia Canal was dug between the years 1189 and 1201, creating a river “highway” to connect the fortified outpost of Monselice and the Euganean Hills with the city of Padua. It soon became one of the most important waterways in Italy.

The anchors are the symbol of this extraordinary monument, designed by Riccardo Cappellozza, boatmen doc, founder of the local Museum of River Navigation. Along the historic waterway of Battaglia, for about 800 meters, have been placed 9 anchors.
